Brick Road Poetry Press

poetry made to entertain, amuse, and edify

The mission of Brick Road Poetry Press is to publish and promote poetry that entertains, amuses, edifies, and surprises a wide audience of appreciative readers.  We are not qualified to judge who deserves to be published, so we concentrate on publishing what we enjoy. Our preference is for poetry geared toward dramatizing the human experience in language rich with sensory image and metaphor, recognizing that poetry can be, at one and the same time, both familiar as the perspiration of daily labor and as outrageous as a carnival sideshow.

“In The Return of the Naked Man, Robert Tremmel takes us on a poetic journey of personal exploration. Somewhere on a line somewhere between Camus’s Absurd Man and the Everyman of medieval morality plays, Tremmel’s Naked Man (and sometimes Woman) is all of us, exposed and vulnerable before a world that feels at once both normal and completely strange. It shows us doing the simplest things, from using binoculars, stopping at a convenience store, or deciding whether to eat a pecan pie, but also the most existential: choosing whether to delete everything about one’s life or figuring out what to do with Jesus when He’s having a bad day at the beach. The poems are insightful, fun, and at once both accessible and challenging. Tremmel has written a book that will last in the mind long after its pages have been shelved.”
